Mr. Garry Oliver, seen here alongside the 2008 Grammy Award winning Benny Benassi, is the Director and Senior Facilitator of BARS Training Australia bringing a wealth of experience to training, consultancy and events management.

 

Garry has served 24 years in operational policing with the Queensland Police Service reaching the rank of Senior Sergeant in charge of police operations Fortitude Valley.

For the last 9 years of his service he coordinated up to 7 agencies specialising in the development and maintenance of harm reduction strategies for licensed premises throughout Queensland.  He was the original founder of the Liquor Enforcement and Proactive Strategies (LEAPS) process that forms a part of the Brisbane City 17 Point Safety Action Plan, now implemented state wide, lecturing on these strategies to health and enforcement agencies throughout Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Garry has been Operational Skills Instructor since 1994 training police officers, together with a number of other law enforcement agencies.  This training included use of force options open to police officers including conflict resolution, tactical communication and control and restraint techniques.  During his police service he was awarded both the National Medal and the Queensland Police Medal for diligent and ethical conduct. 

Garry is currently the senior lecturer and co-ordinator for Justice Department for the Gold Coast Institute of TAFE where he has lectured in justice studies for over 7 years. He is currently an approved trainer with the Queensland State Government and a trainer and assessor officially recognised by the Australian Hospitality Review Panel.

Garry is currently a licensed crowd controller, security guard, security advisor, private investigator and approved manager under the Liquor Act 1992.  He has served on the executive board of the National Security Association (Qld) for over 4 years and currently holds the position of President after being appointed November 2008.
